An Earthy, Navy Winter 10×10: Pieces

January 19, 2018

I’m so excited for another round of the 10×10 remix!

For anyone unfamiliar, the challenge is essentially this:  pick 10 pieces you already own to wear for 10 days.  Adjust the rules to your liking, because it’s meant to be a fun exercise!  Lee of Style Bee and Caroline of Unfancy are the official hosts, and so many cool people participate using the hashtag #winter10x10friends on Instagram!  You can check out my Fall 10×10 here, if you’re curious.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7

This time around, I wanted to embrace the general color palette I selected for my winter capsule, bringing in navy and some earth tones.  I hope it’s a little playful, warm, easy, and elegant.

  • Test a uniform formula of cropped, voluminous pants + ankle-covering footwear.

I’m hoping I can establish this as one of my go-to, don’t-have-to-think-about-it looks without getting sick of it.  I’ve alway been wearing wedgie jeans so much lately that I thought I’d try taking a break from them for the 10 days.

  • Create a realistic packing list template.

I always like to look at 10x10s as an exercise in packing light, and this time I’m going to try to even extend that to the accessories I wear throughout the 10 days.  I’ll be treating my outerwear as an accessory, and I’m going to see if I can keep it limited to a single coat.

  • Work my high neck blouse into some looks.

I just haven’t worn it much lately, so I’m hoping to mix it into some everyday outfits for a change.

HIGH NECK BLOUSE – H&M Conscious, made from organic cotton (similar eco-friendly) // I think this is such an interesting top and I always get compliments on it.

CLYDE PANT – Elizabeth Suzann, made in Nashville (other colors, fabric) // Because 2 of my 3 pant options are tight-waisted, I knew I’d want to relief of an elastic waist in the mix.  While this pant doesn’t have the same wide-leg silhouette of the others, it’s still voluminous in a way that’s really fun to style.

CHUNKY TURTLENECK – Zady, made responsibly // I’m including this even though it’s not the most travel-friendly item (because of its bulk), just because I not actually traveling, so it seems like a good opportunity to wear it.

LUCIA PANT – Esby Apparel, made in Austin // I love the terra cotta tone of this pant, and keeping warmer neutrals in the mix provides a nice sense of balance.

CHELSEA BOOTS – Loeffler Randall, old (similar made responsibly) // I love these boots with both of my wide legs pants, but I’ve never really tried them with my Clydes.  Maybe this is the time…

STRIPED TEE – Everlane, made responsibly // A striped tee always somehow makes its way into my packing lists, and it’s appeared in a lot of my 10x10s.  I just think it’s nice to have some classic pattern sometimes.

MAUVE SWEATSHIRT – Everlane, old (similar made responsibly) // This is so soft and comforting, and looks great tucked into a high-waisted pant.

WIDE LEG DENIM PANT – J.Crew, secondhand (similar made responsibly) // I’ve come to really love wearing this pant, and am wondering how I ever found it difficult to wear.

NAVY TEE – Everlane, made responsibly // I haven’t worn this yet this season!  I don’t know how, but I’m definitely pulling out this staple tee now.

HIGH TOP SNEAKERS – Converse // Just classic.

Weather:  I’m expecting weather ranging from 50°-70,° and of course a too-cold climate at the office I have no control over.

Activities:  I’ll have some weekending and some casual work looks.

I don’t have any button-up tops included in my 10×10 pieces, and I’m a little worried that will limit me with versatility.  I’m also a little concerned that my pant choices might be too drafty on cooler days, but maybe I’ll layer up with leggings.  We’ll see how it goes!

I’ll be sharing my outfits daily on Instagram, and breaking them down in more detail on Wednesdays on the blog.  Let me know if you’re participating in this Winter 10×10!  I’d love to follow along!

I so wish English winter was 50-70 degrees! As someone living in a cold place, knee length socks are a great defence against frozen legs under wide leg trousers…

Aren’t chelsea boots (aka, paddock boots) the best!?!!! And you always ROCK them so differently than I wear them!! Inspiring!!!

I included both a heeled chelsea AND and flat chelsea boot by Red Wing in my 10 X 10–I hope you’ll stop on by Lo!

Thank you! Yes, I love Chelsea boots. They feel “low maintenance” in a way that a lot of boots don’t. I love your looks! They have such happy, cozy vibes.
